SECO is the federal government's centre of excellence for all core issues relating to economic and labour market policy. It is our aim to contribute to sustained economic growth, high employment and fair working conditions, by creating the necessary regulatory, economic and foreign policy framework. Following the lifting of the country-specific additional tariffs by the US Supreme Court, the US President introduced a new across-the-board additional tariff of 10% citing a different legal basis.

Revision of Regulation No 883/2004

The delegations of the European Council and the Parliament reached a provisional agreement on the revision of Regulation 883/2004 as part of the trilogue procedure. Switzerland is following this work closely.

New unemployment benefit payment system: payments guaranteed despite technical issues

Following the launch of ASAL 2.0 on 6 January 2026, serious technical issues arose, causing a backlog of work at the unemployment insurance funds. These issues have now largely been resolved. SECO is continuing to optimise the system and regrets any delays in the payment of unemployment benefits.

SECO comprises four directorates and a Resources division. The Board Committee handles strategic management, while the full Board of Directors serves as a key forum for strategic discussion and planning.
